After coming back from my first camp, going as an instructor under Camp HA, i realised many many things.
Firstly, sec1 kids are not as innocent as i thought they should be.
In those 3 days at camp, i've never seen so many middle fingers pointed and sometimes i hear vulgarities i've never heard of in my life coming out of the mouths of those sec1 kids.
And i hate it when they talk back at you.
I mean, just do what you're freaking told!
Seriously, it was like culture shock.
This brings me to my second point- i realised how protected i am.
I felt like a wen shi li de xiao hua.
Within 4 hours of the first day of camp, a fight broke out in class.
Wahlao i really never see this kind of thing happening before okay!
Perhaps because i was taking a normal academic class, i found it difficult to relate to them.
Hahaha but this job is all about getting thrown in whatever shitty situations and learning to adopt in these situations.
Come to think of it, these 3 days of camp made me use more chinese to communicate with the kids and my chinese cmi.
Thirdly, its all about pleasing the teachers.
Okay i really need to learn how to control 20 monsters.
I was complaining about camp by the end of the first day but after the whole thing, a part of me still enjoyed it especially campfire.
And i'm so thankful for the instructors i met.
Though i was initially secretly shocked by how loosely some of them use the f word, they're generally pretty funny people.
I managed to click with this instructor hahaha cos she from girls school, her hair or something about her reminds me of ARIEL and she has the same phone as DEBBIE (only realised this after we break camp -.-)
Its people like her that makes things in camp that little bit better, thank God!
Like we did sentry together, and there was extra food left over so at 2+ am we were eating beehoon out of the tray and instead of losing weight during camp, we probably put on weight.
Sound so piggy hahahah.
I still remember how much we were looking forward to breaking camp when it was just the first night of camp!
By the end of 3 days, i nearly lost my voice arghhhh.
In any case, i wish i could have done better and i know i really screwed up some stuff.
I badly need to be more flexible in sticky situations.
And i personally feel that saying i made such mistakes because its my first time being a camp instructor is a lame excuse.
I think i was also not used to how last minute-ish this camp was, like amazing race at sentosa was on the second day then they only brief us about it on the first night of camp.
Guess each job has its own challenge.
Hope next camp will be better!
Yaaaaaaa cannot give up so easily.

Oh right, and i think there's something wrong with me cos i can't seem to work with guys especially those who are too laidback.
They get on my nerves.
